Airheart The ABCs of Music—Rhythm
Students will understand that notes can be put together in different combinations to create different rhythms. Students will develop knowledge of notes, measures, rests, and 4/4 time. They will become familiar with percussion instruments and will be able to write simple melodies and play them on instruments.

Bryant The Golden Ratio
There exists in nature and in the minds of humans a ratio (relationship) which seems to be very pleasing and prevalent. This ratio is known as the Golden Ratio. Students will demonstrate their knowledge of the Golden Ratio by constructing golden rectangles and writing their algebraic proofs while listening to golden ratio music.

Bolster Understanding Fractions Through Music
Using music and musical notation to reinforce fractions. Students will understand the temporal relationship between whole, half, and quarter notes and relate them to the mathematical concept.

Students will be introduced to the great historical contributions of three classical composers while developing listening, speaking, reading and writing, math, and physical creative expression skills.

Connects Music to Physical Education

Matic Beethoven's Thoughts
Students will write a descriptive essay explaining how they feel, and what thoughts they have while listening to Beethoven’s 5th. They will also describe the musical elements that cause them to feel that way. They will then transpose those feelings into a watercolor art piece, orally present their essay and later act out their verbs in a physical education exercise.

Exploring the words, music, and historical background of The Star-Spangled Banner, students will understand the ways in which music can serve as a political symbol.

Hillman Admirable Armonica Admirers
Students will understand that even though Wolfgang Mozart and Benjamin Franklin were born 50 years apart and were from different countries, they both shared a passion and love of music created on a Glass Armonica. Students will demonstrate that they understand the principles of creating music with water and glass.

Through cooperative classroom presentations, students will demonstrate knowledge of major changes in atomic theory and be able to relate changes in scientific thought to changes in musical styles.
